HOSTkabob is a web development company providing economical web space for those that want to develop their own sites, or complete turn-key, fully managed websites.
HOSTkabob is the result of my own search for a reliable, secure home for my boat building hobby website, messing-about.com. The search was frustrating, as I found overloaded servers with thousands of websites on them. It didn’t matter that they promised “unlimited disk space” and “unlimited bandwidth” when the site was down. Unreliability and slow response speeds made their “unlimited plans” very limited indeed.
A New Kind of Hosting
I needed to find hosting for the rest of us, where safe and secure didn’t mean rare and expensive. In order to do that, I established my hosting company where I seek out the most secure server I can find, put my own sites on it, and invite others to join me.
This is the result, a small hosting company offering everything you need to get your site on-line. Without downtime and connection speeds so slow you fall asleep waiting for your site to load.
But There’s a Catch
Because my server has my own sites on it, I’m picky about the kind of sites I allow. I don’t want my sites going down because someone is sending millions of spam messages, or because someone is providing copyrighted material. I’ll bet you don’t want your site to go down either.
Each order is reviewed before allowing the site on the server to protect the customers already there (and my own sites, of course).
No Overselling
I don’t oversell the space or the bandwidth. That means I don’t have 900 websites on a server that can only handle 150. And I dont’ promise bandwidth that isn’t there. Many hosts oversell drastically, offering “unlimited disk space” and “unlimited bandwidth”. Remember the old saying about something being too good to be true? Do you have unlimited disk space on your computer? Of course not.
Overselling requires the host to juggle accounts around if one account starts using more resources. Its like a Ponzi scheme, with hundreds of websites promised the same disk space and bandwidth. The operators hope that not all of them want to use the space and bandwidth at the same time. And they start to panic, and start kicking customers off when they use too much disk space and bandwidth. But what about the “unlimited” part? They point to obscure portions of their Terms of Service that limits the amount of CPU time you can use, suspend your account and send you packing. Unlimited gall if you ask me.
Economical Pricing
No overselling, a secure and fast server, and … low prices? The truth is that many websites fit into my lowest priced plans. Low cost hosting runs from $2 a month (payable annually at $24) to $4.00 a month on a month-to-month basis for most sites. Bloggers, small businesses, organizations, club associations and more fit into these plans. And success doesn’t have to be expensive; all but a few sites fit into our $10 a month Small Business plan.
Full Management on Business Plans
I help set up, configure and get you started on all plans. For business plans, I offer a variety of management options, including content creation and webmaster services.
